Water-based fluxes: Efficiency and sustainability in electronics manufacturing
The water-based fluxes from Emil Otto are the ideal solution for companies that rely on quality, process reliability and environmental protection. They offer a future-proof alternative to conventional fluxes and ensure reliable, clean solder joints. Fluxes now play a central role in modern electronics manufacturing because they are an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional, alcohol-based fluxes.
In the course of the customer-specific development of fluxes, our customers repeatedly expressed the wish for ecological, sustainable products. As a sustainability-oriented company, we have taken this request into account. As a result, we have developed a broad portfolio of ecological fluxes.

Our aim was not only to achieve an environmentally friendly end product, but also to ensure environmentally friendly production and simplified transportation. Our “Green Line” products are water-based and therefore completely biodegradable. As a result, they are not classified as hazardous goods and do not harm the environment. The “Green Line” products can therefore be transported, handled and stored in the conventional manner. In particular, the simple, conventional storage represents a significant added value for our customers.
The products from the “Green Line” series contain fluxes for wave soldering. All fluxes can be used on the established production systems. The soldering results correspond to those achieved with alcohol-based fluxes. It is therefore easily possible for you to switch to ecological, water-based fluxes.
Water-based fluxes from Emil Otto are optimally suited for various soldering processes in the production of assemblies and cable assembly and offer a range of advantages:
Water-based fluxes are not hazardous, are non-flammable and contain no volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This minimizes health risks for employees and the environment. In addition, the occupational safety requirements are reduced.
Water-based fluxes are not hazardous materials. This reduces costs for transport, storage, environmental protection measures and compliance with legal requirements. In addition, water-based fluxes ensure lower material consumption due to precise dosing.
Water-based fluxes provide even wetting of the solder joints and ensure excellent activation even at low temperatures. They ensure a clean soldering appearance and now achieve drying times that are equal to those of alcohol-based fluxes.
After the soldering process, water-based flux residues can be easily removed with water or mild cleaning agents. This reduces the need for aggressive chemical cleaning agents and protects the components.
By using water-based fluxes, companies are actively protecting the environment by conserving natural resources and reducing CO₂ emissions by eliminating solvents. At the same time, strict environmental requirements are met and a contribution is made to improving the sustainability balance.
